Using Ratios to Compare Situations

In this MathUP video, you will see how double number lines provide a helpful visual when solving problems. The example in this video shows how double number lines can easily represent equivalent ratio values in particular, but you can also use double number lines when working with rates or percents. Students can quickly get the hang of comparing ratios, rates, or percents on a double number line, so we encourage you to introduce this method in your classroom to see results.

In this issue’s Things We Love video, Marian explains an alternative method for solving vertical subtraction equations where students can flex their mental math skills. We hope your students will enjoy putting this subtraction action into practice!
