We think the best kinds of mobiles are the ones that involve math! Equation mobiles offer a fun and interesting way for students to understand and solve equations. Because of the visual structure of equation mobiles, students can clearly see how different shapes, representing unknown values, add together to maintain the balance of the mobile arms. There are many useful websites that allow educators and students to create their own equation mobiles, perhaps the most well-known example being SolveMe Mobiles. You could also check out the “Mathematical Mobiles” Shareable from our November issue that includes a printout and instructions for a two-person game that’s perfect for students in Grades 3 to 6.
